The humans behind the tech: Nadene Serman, Global CTO

In the fast-evolving world of legal technology, it’s easy to focus on what’s being built – the platforms, their functionality, the outcomes they deliver. But at InfoTrack, we believe the “who” matters too.

Behind every product, every security protocol, every innovation, is a person with a story. And few stories are as powerful, or as human, as that of our Global Chief Technology Officer, Nadene Serman.

Earlier this year, Nadene was named Cyber Security Champion of the Year at the 2025 Australian Cyber Security Awards. It was a proud moment not just for Nadene, but for all of us at InfoTrack, because it recognised what we see every day: a leader who balances razor-sharp technical acumen with unwavering integrity, inclusivity, and heart.

From aspiring lawyer to global technology leader

Nadene’s path to tech leadership didn’t begin with computers, it began with aspirations to become a lawyer. Raised in post-apartheid South Africa, she was shaped by a deep awareness of inequality and a resolve to build more inclusive systems. She originally studied law, inspired by her father and their shared vision of opening a family legal practice.

But life had other plans. Upon deciding to move to Australia and realising that this required requalification as a lawyer, Nadene pivoted, leveraging her IT minor into a full-fledged career in technology, completing an honours degree at a time when women were still a rare presence in the field.

That decision would open doors to a global career that spanned continents and industries, from financial services and telcos in Sydney to investment banking in Singapore, from retail giants to international airlines, and ultimately, to InfoTrack, where she now oversees all things technology across five countries.

Building secure, scalable innovation (and culture)

At InfoTrack, Nadene is the strategic and cultural engine behind our technology platforms. She leads with a strong belief in empowering teams to innovate boldly, safely, and with purpose.

“Creativity needs space,” she says. “If your teams are constantly in reactive mode, they can’t invent the future. My job is to clear the noise so they can focus on what matters.”

Under her leadership, InfoTrack has built a robust, secure ecosystem trusted by legal and financial professionals globally. Her approach to cybersecurity is not just about compliance, it’s about confidence.

That ethos was reflected in a project that won her national recognition in the Cybersecurity industry: a ground-up, secure-by-design overhaul of InfoTrack’s platform infrastructure, blending cutting-edge cloud architecture, global data governance, and embedded DevSecOps practices. But it was just as much a cultural achievement as a technical one. Security, under Nadene, became everyone’s business.

“Security has to be lived, not layered on,” she said at the time. “It’s a mindset, a culture, a daily habit – and that starts at the top.”

Championing AI with integrity

Nadene is also at the forefront of InfoTrack’s AI strategy. In an industry still grappling with questions of ethics, explainability, and adoption, she is a clear-eyed advocate for balanced, customer-first innovation.

“We don’t just ask, ‘What can AI do?’” she says. “We ask, ‘What should it do?’ Our responsibility is not just to build fast, but to build right.”

She sees AI not as a threat, but as a partner – one that, when used thoughtfully, can improve access to justice, streamline professional workflows, and help humans focus on what they do best: reasoning, empathising, and solving problems computers can’t.

And yet, for all her technical foresight, Nadene never forgets the human factor. “We can automate many things. But trust is never automated. You need to earn that every day.”

Leading through lived experience

Nadene’s leadership style was forged not just in boardrooms, but in the realities of life. One of the defining moments in her career came after she returned to work as a new mother and found herself navigating criticism and stereotypical assumptions about her capabilities.

“It was tough,” she reflects. “But it gave me the empathy I lead with today. Everyone on my team is a whole human, with hopes, fears, families, dreams. I never forget that.”

She is a firm believer in fostering psychological safety, mentoring others, and focusing on inclusion, not just as ideals, but as competitive advantages. And she’s open about her own growth journey, acknowledging that it took time and reflection to evolve from quietly thriving in male-dominated environments to actively advocating for others.

That evolution is now central to her leadership. “If I can help someone grow, find their voice, or feel they belong- then that’s success.”

Reimagining legal tech for a fairer future

When asked what she’d change in the legal industry, Nadene doesn’t hesitate: access to justice.

“The system is too complex, too expensive, and too intimidating for most people. We need to change that, through better design, better technology, and better thinking.”

She’s also vocal about the need for interoperability – breaking down the silos between legal systems and tools to build a more connected, intelligent industry. “Imagine if your client updates, court filings, and billing all talked to each other seamlessly. That’s not just possible, it’s necessary.”

And she’s not content with talk. At InfoTrack, she’s building the frameworks, teams, and technologies to help make it real.

The future is human

In an industry built on precision, compliance, and complexity, Nadene Serman brings something rare: clarity and humanity. She’s proof that technology leadership isn’t just about systems, it’s about stewardship.

Whether she’s rearchitecting global platforms, mentoring rising women in tech, or rethinking what legal innovation can look like, Nadene does it with courage, compassion, and conviction.

With leaders like Nadene at the helm, the future of legal tech is in good hands.
