The Australian government is mandating additional requirements when verifying the identity of new clients to reduce the risk of identity fraud. These changes are required when checking your client’s identity records against the Document Verification Service (DVS).
What has changed?
From late last 2022, the card number on a driver license is a mandatory inclusion for license holders across all states.
What you need to do:
When using InfoTrackID, these changes were applied on September 1, 2022, so the good news is, you don’t need to do anything. InfoTrack has released product updates to our online Verification of Identity (VOI) solution, InfoTrackID. A new ‘Driver’s License card number’ field has been added, as well as guidance to support users with understanding the change. Our solution supports the changes in DVS, and we have ensured that your VOIs conducted through InfoTrackID are compliant with the mandate.
What is the Driver’s License card number? Is this different to the Driver’s License number?
The Driver’s License number and Driver’s License card number are different. The license number, which is already a mandatory field, identifies the individual, whereas the card number is used to verify that the supplied license is the most recently issued version of the card. Both are now mandatory inclusions in verification of identity (VOI) submissions.
Why are the DVS going to check this field?
A Driver’s License card number is updated each time the license is reissued. This means that the DVS can verify that the supplied driver’s license is the most recently issued. This will reduce the risk and instance of identity crime.
When did this change come into effect?
The inclusion of the Driver’s License card number became mandatory on September 1st in NSW, ACT, SA, TAS, NT and WA.
QLD became mandatory on 7th November 2022, while VIC became mandatory on 19th December 2022.
