Southport pips Gold Coast rival as Queensland's top unit hotspot

Southport has replaced long-term leader Surfers Paradise as Queensland’s number one suburb for unit sales, according to the latest property data.

InfoTrack‘s Property Market Update Q4 2024 sees Surfers Paradise fall l to second position after securing top spot in the previous seven quarterly reports.

InfoTrack’s Head of Property Australia, Lee Bailie, said sales from October 1 to December 31 last year saw Southport surge to the top from seventh position in 2024’s Q3 report.

“Southport has well and truly emerged from the shadows of Surfers Paradise as a hotspot for unit buyers in Queensland, securing top position on the list for the first time,” Mr Bailie said.

“As well as the obvious lifestyle benefits of living by the beach, Southport has much on offer to make the suburb a wise investment choice. The area has a diverse economy and infrastructure which contribute to a thriving hotspot for people looking to buy in a suburb where property values are on the rise, and likely to continue growing.”

Mr Bailie said another Gold Coast suburb, Labrador, finished fifth overall in the 2024 Q4 report – the suburb’s first appearance since Q3 2023, where it came in in tenth position.

“Located right on the Broadwater, Labrador is a great location for buyers because it’s close to Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus and Gold Coast Private Hospital and is a short drive from some of the region’s best shopping destinations,” he said.

According to InfoTrack’s Property Market Update Q4 report, houses remained the preferred property type for Sunshine State buyers.

About 60 per cent (59.68) of buyers chose houses, and Pimpama, within the City of Gold Coast, remained a suburb of choice.

“This is the third quarter in a row Pimpama has appeared within the top four suburbs for Queensland house sales. Its strategic placement between the Gold Coast beaches and Brisbane City makes it highly appealing to buyers,” Mr Bailie said.

“Interest in this area continues to grow with Pimpama’s sister suburb Upper Coomera remaining in the list at number nine, and the fast-growing inland community of Yarrabilba, in the City of Logan, entering the list for the first time, at number seven.

“The Moreton Bay region continued to prove attractive to house buyers with Caboolture taking out the number one position, and Morayfield once again appearing on the list.”
