Creating a culture of security, implementing a Zero-Trust Roadmap, and safely adopting new technology has earned InfoTrack’s Global Chief Technology Officer a top gong at the 2025 Australian Cyber Awards.
The awards, held in Sydney last night (29 April), recognise the cyber professionals safeguarding individuals, businesses, and the country, with Nadene Serman named Cybersecurity Champion of the Year – Internal.
“I’m incredibly humbled and am proud of the new collaborations, knowledge, and partnerships this brings,” Ms Serman said.
InfoTrack is a pioneer in e-conveyancing and legal technology, and as Global CTO, Ms Serman is responsible for strategy, data, security, platform and products, integration, and more across Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, and the UK.
“My focus has been on fostering a culture of security within InfoTrack – one where cybersecurity is not just a compliance measure but a shared responsibility across the entire business and woven into the fabric of everyday life,” Ms Serman said.
“Cultural shift leads to long-term impact, and we’ve already seen an uptake in the number of employees reporting suspicious emails, an increase in the number of requests for our cyber team to vet products, and growing demand for specialised training.”
Ms Serman said adopting a Zero-Trust Roadmap was integral to fortifying security across all facets of the organisation: people, identities, endpoints, networks, infrastructure, applications, data, and analytics.
“This was a comprehensive strategy and included delivering tailored cybersecurity training for employees and their families, establishing an integrated security team spanning development and infrastructure, rolling out endpoint protection and new tools and processes, and ensuring security is native to InfoTrack’s platform,” she said.
InfoTrack takes a defence-in-depth approach to protect systems and data.
“Our clients rely on our ability to deliver their information securely and reliably, and so InfoTrack is certified as compliant with the premier global information security management system (ISMS) standards,” she explains.
Under Ms Serman’s leadership, InfoTrack is also now positioned to safely lead the legal industry’s AI adoption.
“The legal industry is undergoing rapid transformation due to AI and by embedding security into every stage of AI development and deployment, we have enabled faster innovation without compromising trust. This has led to improved customer satisfaction and significant revenue growth,” she said.
“Cybersecurity isn’t just about protection; it’s a catalyst for transformation and success. By fostering a culture of cybersecurity awareness, innovation, and shared responsibility, businesses can shift from defensive postures to proactive, strategic offence.
“I see my role as an advocate for change, aiming to shift the perception of cybersecurity from an expensive technical burden to a shared business and community imperative, so that businesses thrive securely, cybercrime is less lucrative, and our collective defence is impenetrable.”
