As temperatures soar, new data confirms the Blue Mountains is NSW’s most bushfire-prone location

Off the back of sweltering temperatures across New South Wales, new data has been released naming the top 20 suburbs most impacted by bushfires now, along with the locations to be most affected in the future – and the Blue Mountains features strongly.

Blue Mountains National Park comes in at number one currently and also tops the list of the 20 suburbs to be most affected by bushfires in 30 years, according to data from Groundsure ClimateIndex™ reports, available through InfoTrack.

Other Blue Mountains locations are also feeling the impact of bushfires now, include Kurrajong Heights at number 6, Bilpin at number 13, and Blackheath at number 14.

The Riverina and Northern Tablelands are also strongly represented, with Booligal (number 3), Deniliquin (number 5), Moama (number 7); Ebor (number 15) and Yarrowitch (number 20), all named.

The data comes from a new report, designed specifically for conveyancers, lawyers and homebuyers in New South Wales, to ensure buyers are equipped to make informed property purchasing decisions.

Groundsure CEO Dan Montagnani said it is important buyers know the climate risks associated with their property, not only today, but in the future.

“The Groundsure Bushfire Calculator can meticulously evaluate and predict the bushfire risk of properties. It intelligently integrates critical factors such as historical wildfire patterns, lightning frequency, climate conditions and proximity to bushfire-prone areas,” Mr Montagnani said.

The report shows several suburbs on the NSW South Coast and Southern Tablelands will make the bushfire impact list for the first time by 2053, including Malua Bay at number two, Araluen at number three, Moruya at number five, and Lilli Pilli at number six.

“It’s the first time we see certain regions on the NSW South Coast make the Top 20 list of suburbs affected by Bushfires in 30 years. It’s crucial information for buyers,” Mr Montagnani said.

The Hawkesbury, just 80 kilometres from the Sydney CBD, also gets a mention, with the suburb of Lower Portland coming in at number 19 on the list of Top 20 suburbs affected by bushfires now.

InfoTrack’s Global Head of Property John Ahern said Groundsure’s reports can evaluate bushfire, flooding, and coastal erosion risks for individual residences.
