Edition 103 - Women at the forefront

International Women’s Day is a powerful celebration of leadership, progress and the collective impact of women across our profession and beyond. This year’s theme, Balance the Scales, led by UN Women Australia, calls on all of us to champion action, strengthen collaboration and continue building a more equitable future.

Across the legal sector, meaningful momentum is underway. Survivor-centred approaches are strengthening justice systems, marginalised voices are being amplified, and organisations are embracing structural change with renewed purpose. This progress reflects a profession that is evolving with intention, guided by leaders committed to lasting and measurable impact.

In this edition, we celebrate four exceptional women, Amanda Little, Antonia Tahhan, Charlie Pollock, and Danielle Manion, whose leadership and dedication are driving positive change across the legal profession. Their work demonstrates that balancing the scales is not only a shared responsibility, it is a movement gaining strength every day.

Balance the scales: The quiet power of women in family law

Amanda Little, Principal Solicitor of ALA Law, reflects on the International Women’s Day 2026 theme ‘Balance the Scales’ through the lens of family law, highlighting profound impact women have in restoring fairness, protecting vulnerable parties, and navigating complex power imbalances. In this piece, Amanda explores how female practitioners are reshaping both client outcomes and workplace culture through a values-driven approach which protects dignity, empowers clients, and creates lasting social change.
