Verification of Identity solutions emerging during COVID-19

As new Verification of Identity (VOI) tech solutions emerge during COVID-19 to support banking, finance and legal sectors with remotely verifying the identity of their clients, InfoTrack CEO, Mr John Ahern warns “you should do your homework.”

My Ahern is urging all industries to “pay attention to what is being verified, whether official documents are checked against government records and if the security and privacy of your client’s data is guaranteed.”

InfoTrack has offered a VOI solution since October 2015 and has completed over 160,540 verifications. Mr Ahern goes on to say that “we are effectively processing a 43% spike in WebVOI volumes and can scale to support as many businesses as possible during COVID-19.”

Amanda Spencer from Bridge Legal, an InfoTrack client, said “Once our staff knew WebVOI was compliant with ARNECC recommendations they were very keen to use it and now it’s as if it is something that we have used all the time.”

Ms Spencer adds “Our clients are time poor and many can’t readily get to a post office, given the current environment. Using WebVOI was a relief that we could get through the verification of identity process quickly and efficiently whilst putting our clients at ease about sharing their private information with people they didn’t know [at the post office].”

When looking for a remote VOI service and comparing what is available in the market, Ahern recommends asking the following questions:

  1. Is the verification in real-time?
  2. How is my client’s data stored?
  3. Can you guarantee the privacy and security of my client’s information?
  4. Do you offer video verification in compliance with ARNECC’s remote VOI COVID-19 recommendations?
  5. Do you capture important metadata including location, IP address, date and time?
  6. Does the VOI transaction integrate with your practice management software?
  7. How long has the service been operating?

In addition to video verification, InfoTrack’s WebVOI uses 3 extra layers of verification including Australian Government checks, facial recognition and optical character recognition comparing identity documents with official channels. These different types of verification all work together to reduce identity fraud whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines and keeping clients safe.
